How do Blogs differ from traditional sites?
Sample Blog By host on 12/1/2005 8:02 PM
Blogs differ from traditional web sites in that, rather than being composed of many individual pages connected by hyperlinks, they are composed of a few templates (usually Main Page, Archive Page, and Individual Article/Item Page), into which content is fed from a database. This provides many advantages over traditional sites, including:
  • It allows for easy creation of new pages, since new data is entered into a simple form (usually with Title, Category, and the body of the article), and then submitted.
  • It allows for easy filtering of content for various presentation, like by date, category, author, or one of many other attributes
  • Most blog platforms allow the administrator to invite and add other authors, whose permissions and access are easily managed

What is meant by 'blogging'?

If you're not familiar with blogging, it's Web logging, a form of personal Web publishing. Typically, blogs are updated on a more frequent basis than other personal Web sites and include links to content selected by the author—thoughts and opinions, journal items, and comments from readers about the blog entries.

Blogs have caught the attention of the press because they're a unique form of expression and news distribution that's growing rapidly. By some estimates, there are over 1 million active bloggers worldwide.

Registered users can make comments on your blog (if you enable the Comments feature) and you can setup your blog for syndication for other blog RSS feeds to access.
